Memorandum: Communication Services from The General Convention

Episcopal News Service. March 25, 1976 [76111]

DATE: March 25, 1976

TO: Diocesan Press Service Mailing List

FROM: Walter H. Boyd

SUBJECT: Communication Services from The General Convention

Once again I am asking for the help of diocesan publications in publicizing The Convention Daily which will be published during the General Convention this fall.

Attached is a camera-ready subscription form. If the policy of your publication does not prohibit it, I would like to request your printing the form at least once in your publication. (Please note that subscriptions must be received in St. Paul no later than August 15!) I wish we could afford to pay for advertising in those publications which are dependent on advertising for revenue, but we do not have funds for advertising in regional publications. My desire is that there be communication of the news of the Convention, and your help will be appreciated. A very large percentage of the subscription forms in 1973 came from diocesan publications.

If you are unable to print the form, perhaps you could have a paragraph indicating the procedure for subscribing to The Convention Daily, such as the following:

To keep up with the news that will be made during the 1976 General Convention in Minnesota, Sept. 11-23, send your check for $6 for a subscription to the Convention Daily, P.O. Box 16008, St. Paul, Minn. 55102. A copy of every issue of The Daily, including the final summary issue, will be mailed directly from Minneapolis/St. Paul, first class. (Subscriptions will be accepted for U.S. and Canada only, and must be received no later than August 15.)

Code-A-Phone Service

There will also be a Code-A-Phone reporting system from the Convention also. If you can run the following information at least once in your publication, I will appreciate it:

For daily information on the General Convention of the Episcopal Church, dial 612/871-5411 and you will get a three-minute recorded report from Minneapolis/St. Paul, beginning September 11 through September 23. Reports will be updated at least once a day, around 6:00 p.m. (Minnesota time) each day throughout the Convention. For less than $1.00, persons in the 48 contiguous states can call station-to-station by direct distance dialing after your evening and weekend discount rates go into effect.
