Secretary Appointed for Latin America

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Roberto Morales-Alamo has been appointed Executive Secretary for Latin America in the Office of the Deputy for Overseas Relations and will assume his position on the Episcopal Church's Executive Council staff June 1.

Mr. Morales joins the Council staff after five years of full time service to churches in Puerto Rico. From 1964 to 1966 he was executive secretary of the ecumenical Church Research and Planning Commission of Puerto Rico. From 1966 to 1967 he was planning consultant to both the Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches, and since 1968 he has been planning consultant to the Diocese of Puerto Rico's Pilot Diocese Program. He has also served as a consultant to the districts of Colombia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Since 1968 he has served as lay missionary at St. Hilda's Mission, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

Formerly a Presbyterian, Mr. Morales became an Episcopalian in 1967.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Morales has spent much of his life in Puerto Rico. He graduated from high school in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, and from the University of Puerto Rico, majoring in commerce. He also holds a master's degree in church planning from Butler University, Indianapolis, and a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico.

He served from 1955 to 1956 in the United States Army, with the rank of 1st Lt. (Inf.). From 1962 to 1963 he was administrative assistant to the University Board of the University of Puerto Rico.

Mr. Morales and his wife, Irma, are the parents of four children.
