Venture in Mission Collators Prepare Report

Episcopal News Service. June 15, 1977 [77217]

Denver, Colo. -- Reports from 93 jurisdictions in the Episcopal Church on a series of Venture in Mission program visits were collated and summarized as to categories and findings by nine Church leaders in Denver, June 13-18. Each of the nine provinces of the Church was represented by a collator.

Visits to 92 of the 93 U. S. dioceses -- plus the Navajo Land Episcopal Council -- on behalf of the renewal of mission/fund raising program were completed May 31. The consensus report from the provincial collators will be forwarded to the Venture Executive Committee which meets July 5-8 at Seabury House, Greenwich, Conn.

The purpose of the diocesan visits by teams of Church leaders and staff over a period of three and one-half months was "to invite response to the action of the 1976 General Convention in such a way that Venture in Mission becomes a manifestation of renewal in each diocese as well as that of the whole Church. "

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the fall of 1976 in Minneapolis approved the Venture in Mission program which is "a churchwide renewal of mission and a search for funding which will provide capital and program monies for several areas of the Church's work and life."

The collators from the nine provinces are: The Rev. Canon C. A. Hopkins, Portland, Me., Province I; Miss Diane Pollard, New York, N.Y., Province II; Mrs. Helen Eisenhart, Washington, D. C., Province Im; Mr. Edwin Toone III, Freemont, N. C., Province IV; the Rev. Keith A. Leach, Palos Park, Ill., Province V; the Rev. Jack C. Knight, Littleton, Colo., Province VI; the Rev. Fernando Salazar, Mesilla Park, N. Mex., Province VII; the Very Rev. Robert Browne, Boise, Ida., Province VIII; and the Rev. Ashton Brooks, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Province IX.

Also in attendance at the Denver meeting were Bishop Richard Millard, coordinator of the Venture program; Mrs. Lueta Bailey, Griffin, Ga., and Bishop Harold Gosnell, San Antonio, Tex., co-chairmen of the diocesan visits; and Mrs. Margaret Andersen, Episcopal Church Center staff, New York.
