"Walking in the Light" Theme of 1979 Triennial

Episcopal News Service. December 1, 1977 [77380]

NEW YORK, N. Y. -- "Walking in the Light" was selected as the theme of the 1979 Triennial Meeting by the Triennial Program and Planning Committee meeting at Seabury House in early fall. The Committee stated, "That in 'Listening to the Word, Walking in the Light' we are trying to create a climate in which all those present will experience Christian community. Then, strengthened and renewed, we can go out to our own areas to share our mutual ministry."

The theme will be developed during the 1979 Triennial Meeting through daily worship services. Feeding from these will be: small group sessions; spiritual and skill-developing workshops; celebrations of the 90th United Thank Offering anniversary; the making of UTO grants; a Resource Day; and legislation.

The Committee hopes that resolutions and memorials to the 1979 Triennial will be kept to a minimum. Their policy states, "In our Triennial Meeting we wish to minimize legislation in order to allow more time to create, with God's grace, a gathered community -- transfigured, redeemed, and commissioned -- so that we may return to our diocesan families with a new vision of Jesus Christ, and, enabled by His spirit, to proclaim more effectively the Good News. "

Mrs. Daniel Connelly, of Los Angeles, Presiding Officer of the 1979 Triennial Meeting, and Mrs. Robert Feild, Assistant Presiding Officer, stated that the plans for the 1979 Triennial Meeting were geared towards serving not only ECW groups, but all the women of the Church. They welcome input from any quarter and are open to all points of view.

The Action Sub-Committee reported that they had received good information on Diocesan work by women following the last Triennial. Mrs. Barclay Spence, of Western New York, Chairman of this Committee, announced that Loriel Thompson, of Long Island, and Marilyn Adams, of Oklahoma, have been appointed members of that Committee. Triennial Program and Planning Committee members serving on the Committee are: Mrs. Henry Peyton of Connecticut; Mrs. Stanley Pratt of Northern Michigan; and Mrs. Spence.
