Bennett Heads Diocesan Campaigns in Venture

NEW YORK, N. Y. -- Mr. K. Wade Bennett, a long time merchandising executive and active lay leader in the Episcopal Church has joined the Venture in Mission program as chairman of Diocesan Campaigns.

Mr. Bennett, a member of the Venture Cabinet, will work with National Campaign chairman Paul N. Howell of Houston, Tex., in devising means to assist the dioceses in planning and executing the capital fund drives that will cap the three-year Venture.

Mr. Bennett was an executive with R. H. Macy & Co., from 1947 to 1973, the last three years as president. He then became an executive vice-president and a director of Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Inc., where he remained until 1977. He is currently a business consultant and owner of his own firm in Arlington, Tex.

He has been a deputy to three General Conventions and is currently a member of the Joint Commission on Church Structure. He is also a member of the ministries commission of the Diocese of Dallas and a trustee of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, the Board of Foreign Parishes, and the St. Paul's and St. James' Episcopal Churches in Italy.

Mr. Bennett holds a B. A. from Southern Methodist University and a master's degree from Northwestern University. He has done additional study at the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

As chairman of the Diocesan Campaigns, Mr. Bennett will have primary responsibility for assisting the development and coordination of the drives that will make up the Church-wide canvass in the first six months of 1979.

He will carry out much of his work through provincial Venture planning committees and with the assistance of the fund raising counsel, Ward, Dreshman and Reinhardt, Inc.. Although this coordinated canvass is the last phase of the Venture, work is already underway to help dioceses choose goals and assess potential and some dioceses have begun pilot fund drives.
