Coalition 14 Approves Strategy Plan

Tempe, Ariz. -- The Episcopal Church's Coalition 14 has given approval to a three-part strategy and planning proposal that, it is hoped, will have profound impact on the continuing missionary development of the member dioceses.

The Coalition is made up of 14 dioceses and the Navajo Episcopal Council who work and plan strategy and budgets together. All but one currently receive aid from the General Church Program which amounts in the current year to somewhat less than two-fifths of the $5 million Coalition budget.

The three-phase proposal was accepted at the annual Coalition meeting held at Cook Training School here in early March. It is based on assumptions of shared ministry and partnerships that the Coalition has been developing and testing for much of its life.

The first part of the proposal, which would be completed before the 1979 meeting of General Convention in Denver, would provide assistance in developing a new rationale for the involvement of the national Church in developing diocesan strategies.

The second two parts -- which would run for no more than two years -- would provide for the development of strategic planning in three carefully selected dioceses and the coordination of this planning for the entire coalition to assure the widest involvement in the process and results.

The Coalition also chose officers and executive committee members for the year: The Rt. Rev. Wesley Frensdorff of Nevada, president; the Rev. Canon Victor Richer of Montana, secretary; Mr. Paul Chalk, Nevada; the Rt. Rev. William Spofford, Eastern Oregon; the Rt. Rev. Stanley Atkins, Eau Claire; the Rev. Walter C. Ellingson, Utah; Mrs. Peg Campbell, Wyoming, and Ms. Rebecca Snow of Alaska.
