PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- A team of nationally-known Church leaders, including Presiding Bishop John M. Allin and the former Bishop of Lesotho in Southern Africa, will lead a National Episcopal Renewal Conference at the William Penn Hotel here, Oct. 12-15.
The conference is being sponsored by the PEWSACTION fellowship and the Office of Evangelism and Renewal at the Episcopal Church Center in New York. It is designed to help both parish and diocesan teams create and sustain spiritual renewal and growth.
Bishop Allin will deliver the keynote address and the preacher at the Sunday worship will be the Rt. Rev. Desmond Tutu, former bishop of Lesotho and currently executive secretary of the South African Council of Churches. Bishop Tutu was one of the overseas partners for the Episcopal Church's Partners in Mission consultation last year and is a well-known speaker and preacher in the United States. He was dean of Johannesburg, South Africa before his election to the episcopate and is a native South African.
Other speakers and leaders include: The Rev. A. Wayne Schwab, national evangelism and renewal officer; the Very Rev. David B. Collins, dean of Atlanta and vice-president of the House of Deputies; the Rev. Everett Fullam, rector of St. Paul's, Darien, Conn.; the Rev. John Guest, rector of St. Stephen's, Sewickley, Penna.; the Rev. John Perkins, president, Voice of Calvary Ministries, Jackson, Miss.; and the Rev. Donald Hultstrand, executive director of the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer.
The conference will include, in addition to the speakers, witness by four parishes on renewal efforts, workshops, discussion with the speakers and strategy planning sessions.
Parishes and dioceses interested in taking part are urged to assemble teams of at least three people so that efforts after the conference can be fully shared and supported.
