Virginia Council Approves Venture

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia has endorsed the Venture in Mission renewal and funding effort of the Episcopal Church and also has voted to divide its projected $5 million goal equally with the national Church.

The decisions were made at a special meeting of the Diocesan Council at All Saints Church here in early November. The action needs formal approval by the regular meeting of the Council in January.

Of the $2.5 million offered for national work if the full goal is met, well over $2 million of that is undesignated with the remainder earmarked for selected evangelism and overseas projects.

In approving the diocesan participation, the delegates stipulated that the work be overseen by an audit committee to be appointed by the bishop, the Rt. Rev. Robert Hall. In his own remarks to the 400 delegates, Bishop Hall said at one point: "The heart is the important thing here. That is why I want to keep this away from looking like any capital funds drive."
