MEMORANDUM

Episcopal News Service. March 15, 1979 [79086]

DATE: March 15, 1979

TO: Editors of Diocesan Press Service

FROM: Communication Office/Episcopal Church

SUBJECT: TV Spot and "Switchboarding"

1. A 60-second, color TV spot on "The Lord's Prayer" on 16mm film is available for diocesan communicators who might like to try to place it on their local television stations. Produced by the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin, with the assistance of a small grant from the Episcopal Church Center, the spot features the voices of children saying the Lord's Prayer which is visually illustrated through their drawings. The spot ends with the Episcopal Church shield and the printed words, "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You." The spot is an example of a creative idea which might inspire other diocesan communicators to produce similar messages for a small cost. Order from Sonia Francis, Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017; telephone 212/867-8400, ext. 329.

2. The Press Office (Communication) at the Episcopal Church Center welcomes articles/releases contributed by diocesan editors for distribution throughout the Church through the Diocesan Press Service. This is a continuation of a policy of sharing information which has been known for several years as "switchboarding. " Of special interest are models which might be beneficial to other areas. Editors are invited to send copy to our office, bearing in mind the suggested guidelines: Releases should be relatively brief; of interest on a national level; with a lead time for announcements of four to six weeks; typed, double-spaced copy; subject to usual editing for grammar, length and accuracy by our staff; if accepted for use, may have byline if requested. There are a large number of new editors who may not know that we welcome such contributions.
