NEW YORK -- A program to cultivate interest of young people in the Episcopal Church has been developed by the Provincial Youth Ministry Coordinators and The Episcopal Church Foundation. Foundation grants totaling $30,000 will be distributed in 1979 for the best proposals designed to develop young people's participation in the life of the church.
In announcing the program, Frederick L. Redpath, Executive Vice President of the Foundation, said, "For a long time, our Board of Directors has been seeking constructive approaches to the question of young people's involvement with the Church. To stimulate immediate action, we are pleased to be able to join with the Provincial Youth Ministry Coordinators in launching this new program. We also welcome the participation of Ms. Elizabeth Crawford, Youth Ministries Coordinator for the Episcopal Church Center staff. "
The Youth Ministry Coordinators are a national leadership group, whose purpose is to support diocesan youth leaders of the Episcopal Church in their work with parish advisers and the young laity through leadership development, communications and advocacy for youth ministry.
Under the new joint program, it will be the responsibility of the coordinators to generate and screen ideas for proposals to be considered for Foundation grants, make the final selections, and evaluate and follow-up the programs funded.
"Emphasis will be given to ideas and program possibilities which are distinctive, creative and new," Mr. Redpath said. "Proposals may be an expansion of an ongoing program already being conducted; they may be ideas that have been put aside because funds were not available; or they may result from focusing attention on t',e problem."
Application must be submitted in writing by June 15, 1979. Winning proposals will be announced by Aug. 15, 1979. Further information may be obtained by writing directly to The Episcopal Church Foundation, 815 Second Avenue, New York, N. Y. 10017.
