NEW YORK -- "Strange as it may seem, clergy are often the most forgotten people in the calling process," says Margaret Fitter of the Board of Clergy Deployment of the Episcopal Church and author of the Board's new booklet, "Caring for Clergy in the Calling Process."

Over and over again, Mrs. Fitter says, clergy who are being seriously considered by a vestry, or even by a diocesan committee nominating for an episcopal election, are left in the dark as to where the vestry or committee is in its thinking. This oversight can result in needless anxiety and hurt to the clergy. Parishes and dioceses are also sometimes not kept fully informed by such committees, she says, though this happens less often.

To remedy this situation and to offer other practical assistance to calling committees, the Board, with the aid of the Clergy Deployment Office at the Episcopal Church Center, has issued MTS. Fitter's booklet. Copies are being sent to every bishop and Diocesan Deployment Officer. Individual copies at $1.00 each may be ordered from The Clergy Deployment Office, 815 Second Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017.

Mrs. Fitter is a deputy to General Convention this September in Denver from the Diocese of Rochester and is a former president of the standing committee of that diocese.
