COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In a rare gathering, three bishops of Southern Ohio participated in the consecration of the bishop coadjutor for that Episcopal diocese Nov. 8 at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium here.

The Rt. Rev. William Grant Black was consecrated a bishop by the Rt. Rev. John M. Allin, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, assisted by the Rt. Rev. James W. Montgomery of Chicago and the Rt. Rev. Henry W. Hobson, the Rt. Rev. Roger Blanchard and the Rt. Rev. John McG. Krumm, the fourth, fifth and sixth bishops of the diocese that encompasses the southern half of Ohio.

Bishop Black will succeed Bishop Krumm as seventh bishop when the latter resigns in April. Bishop Krumm has been designated suffragan bishop to Presiding Bishop Allin for the Episcopal Church in Europe. He has been in charge of the diocese since 1971.

The new bishop was elected at a special diocesan convention in June of this year. He has served most of his 20-year ministry in the diocese, the last six years as rector of the Church of Our Saviour in Cincinnati.

In a videotape of remarks made at the Ceneral Convention, Bishop Black expressed interest in supporting the ministry of emerging parishes in small communities. He has been asked to undertake program responsibilities in addition to assisting Bishop Krumm with the episcopal visits and other duties of the diocese.

Bishop Black's remarks were broadcast as part of a 38-minute videotape report of General Convention which highlighted the diocesan convention the day after the consecration. The videotape is a general overview of Convention and is available through the Episcopal Church Video Resource Guide, at the communication office of the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
