Ecumenical Relations Seminar to Be at General
Episcopal News Service. January 24, 1980 [80022]
NEW YORK -- The major ecumenical examination that the Episcopal Church undertook in the last triennium will be the focus of a two-week continuing education seminar this summer at the General Theological Seminary here.
The course, offered by the Rev. Prof. J. Robert Wright of the General faculty, is entitled "Ecumenical Relations: Basics for the next decade" and will attempt to equip Church leadership with the skills and knowledge to guide the Church's ecumenical relations through the 1980's.
The course will deal with four areas: the triennial survey, General Convention action on the survey and local adaptation of it; the background of current dialogues; the agreed statements of the dialogues; and the documents that guide Episcopal and Anglican thrusts toward church unity.
Daily worship, a number of optional field trips and parish visits will supplement the classroom work. The Rev. William A. Norgren, associate ecumenical officer of the Episcopal Church Center and the Rev. John Osgood of the Diocese of New York are among invited guest participants. The Rev. William B. Lawson, president of the Episcopal Diocesan Ecumenical Officers, will address the issues of local application of the materials.
J. Robert Wright, professor of church history at General, is author and editor of three books and several articles on ecumenical relations as well as a member of the Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations, the Anglican/Roman Catholic Dialogue in the USA, and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches.
Enquiries should be directed to the office of continuing education at the General Seminary.
