HENDERSONVILLE, N. C. -- A conference for diocesan leaders of the Episcopal Church on possible models and principles for starting new missions is planned for the Kanuga conference center here June 11-13.

The conference -- on the theme "Starting New Congregations in Urban, Suburbia, and Small Towns" -- is designed for bishops, diocesan leaders responsible for starting new missions, and clergy who desire to learn about the "organizing pastor" concept.

Conference speakers include successful leaders in congregational development in the Episcopal, United Methodist and Southern Baptist Churches.

Episcopal speakers and workshop leaders will include William Paddock, Congregational Development Office of the Diocese of Southern Ohio; the Rev. Sherrill Scales, Jr., Executive Vice President of the Episcopal Church Building Fund; the Rev. Nelson Longnecker, Plagusmine, La., an architect who has expertise in church planning and construction; the Rev. Arnold Bush, Tifton, Ga., Regional Associate in Evangelism and Renewal in Province IV, and conference coordinator; and the Rev. Robert Stull, Diocese of Southern Ohio, a lecturer on the "organizing pastor" concept.

Two leaders in the Diocese of Florida -- the Rev. Harold Haugan and the Rev. Robert Libby -- will describe the successful development of their congregations, All Souls and Good Samaritan, respectively.

The Rev. Ezra Earl Johns of Dayton, Ohio, General Secretary of the General Council on Ministries of the Methodist Church, will speak on trends in congregational development. The Rev. Nelson Tilton, Atlanta, Ga., of the Southern Baptist's Church Extension Division of the Home Mission Board, will also be a speaker.

The conference is sponsored by the Office of Evangelism and Renewal at the Episcopal Church Center, with partial funding provided by the Executive Committee of the Synod of Sewanee (Province IV). A brochure on the conference may be secured from Kanuga Conferences, P.O. Box 250, Hendersonville, N. C. 28739, or the Rev. Arnold A. Bush, Regional Associate in Evangelism and Renewal, P.O.
