Church Sunday bulletins make enjoyable reading. For instance, from Christ Church, Nashville, TN, we read: "On the cover of last week's Bulletin, we announced that next Sunday, September 28, will be George and Grace Goss day at Christ Church. The time of the reception has been changed. It will not be a part of our regular Coffee Minute following the late celebration, and not from 3 to 5 as originally planned. Please change your calendars and plan to attend. Help us honor George and Grace." Hope someone showed up whenever.

Grace Church, Oak Park, ll., has a new evangelism committee. It's called Anglicans Committed to Outreach, Renewal, Nurture and Evangelism, or "Acorne," for short. "That's because we're Nuts for Christ," one of the members explained.

There are all kinds of hot-lines, as we know already: Crisis Intervention; Battered Spouse; Dial-a-Prayer; Alcohol and Drug Counseling; Runaway Children. A new one has been established. It's called Dial-a-Mother. Actually, there is no number to call. You just feel guilty about not calling it.

And then there is Thomas A. Edison's favorite joke: "When you're down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out all right."

The Hunger Committee of the Diocese of Colorado, as reported by The Colorado Episcopalian, prescribes two ways to become rich: 1). Acquire great wealth. 2). Acquire few needs.

No comment department: St. Martin's Vestment Company in Lincolnshire, England, advertises "Unisex, easy-care" robes for acolytes and altar servers.

Did you know that there is a Veribest Baptist Church in Texas? We kid you not.

A recent perusal of The Harper Dictionary of Modern Thought reveals that it contains "4, 000 key terms from across the whole range of modern thought, sets them in their context and offers short explanatory accounts written by experts. . ." Three glaring omissions: "Faith," "Hope" and "Love" are not included. Presumably not a part of modern thought.
