Memorandum
Episcopal News Service. February 5, 1981 [81042]
Date: February 5, 1981
To: Diocesan Press Service
From: Press Office/Episcopal Church Center
Subject: General Convention, 1982
Although 1981 is only one month old, we are already deep into plans for September 1982 -- the Louisiana General Convention.
As you know, the Press Office provides (by invitation) news facilities for the Convention. These consist of: full, written, daily coverage of both Houses, information services, and publishing support of the General Convention Daily.
This year Walter Boyd and Bill Dearnaley will have overall charge of print facilities and Sonia Francis of Radio-TV. We plan a common facility so all media can work together. To make all this work, we need staff: reporters for the Daily and coverage of the Houses, and photographers.
For all jobs we need people who can write quickly and clearly, who understand the Church and the General Convention, who are willing to work long hard hours, and who can commit themselves to be in New Orleans and on duty from one or more days before Convention opens on Sept. 6 to mid-afternoon on Sept. 15, be able to put aside diocesan or other commitments for this time, and do all this for expenses only.
We need four reporters for the daily coverage of the Houses, four additional reporters, two photographers and an assistant editor for the Daily. The Daily editor (as yet unnamed) will share fully in selection of Daily staffers.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in undertaking this ministry please let us know. We need resumes and work samples and preference will be given to people with professional journalistic backgrounds or comparable experience.
Please let us hear from you by March 15. The General Convention has earned a solid reputation among professional journalists largely through the efforts of you and your colleagues. Please help us build on that reputation in 1982.
