NEW YORK -- The finance office at the Episcopal Church Center and the Church Pension Fund and affiliates have planned two five-day workshops in 1982 to explore a wide range of accounting, insurance, pension and technological issues.
The workshops -- designed primarily for diocesan bishops, treasurers, administrators and others who are responsible for management of finances -- will take place May 17-21 at the Vallombrosa Center, Menlo Park, Calif., and June 7-11 at the Seabury House conference center, Greenwich, Conn. It is possible that each workshop will he extended one day if sufficient interest is expressed, according to Matthew Costigan, treasurer at the Church Center.
The Pension Fund's agenda will cover such topics as clergy pension programs, financial planning and retirement programs, insurance coverage, risk management, field organization, claims administration and service, and stability of costs.
Among the other topics under consideration for the agenda -- the specific issues selected will depend on the response of participants -- are computer technology, building maintenance, accounting principles and reporting, conflict management, the electronic church, governmental regulations, stewardship and planned giving, administrator placement, money management, taxation of church property, and the 1983-85 General Church Program proposals.
Leaders at the workshops will include Costigan; Robert E. Brown, controller at the Church Center; the Rev. Richard J. Anderson, executive for communication at the Center; David Andrews, vice president of The Episcopal Church Foundation; the Rev. Thomas II. Carson, Jr., executive for stewardship at the Church Center; the Rev. William Geisler, CPA, controller for the Diocese of California; the Rev. Slerrill Scales, Jr., executive vice president of The Episcopal Church Building Fund; and Pension Fund staff.
