Educators' Event Set For Louisville

LOUISVILLE., Ky. -- Educational leaders coming here for the Episcopal Event for Christian Educators, Feb. 12-14, will address the theme, "Refocusing Our Vision of the City."
Every two years such an event brings together educators from the United States, Canada and other countries to sharpen skills and share parish and diocesan experiences in the area of Christian education.
The Episcopal Event -- which begins Friday evening and concludes at noon on Sunday -- precedes the ecumenical North American Event for Christian Educators, Feb. 14-18 at the same site, the Galt House, here.
Bishop John II. Burt of Ohio will be the keynote speaker at the Episcopal Event on Feb. 13 on the topic, "The Church and the City: the Educator's Role." Among the leaders of the 15 workshops which are planned are Brother Leonard of the (community of Taizc, France; Dean Alan Bartlett of Louisville; the Rev. Canon - James Ottley, Republic of Panama; the Rev. John Kitagawa, coordinator of the Downtown Cooperative Ministry of New Haven, Conn.; Sister Toinette Eugene, PBVM, assistant professor of Education, Society and Black Church Studies at Rochester/ Colgate/Boxley Hall seminary in Rochester, N.Y.; and Episcopal Church Center staff members Bobbie Bovill, Judy Carlson, the Rev. Charles Cesaretti, and the Rev. Fred Howard.
Presiding Bishop John M. Allin will be the celebrant at the conference eucharist and Bishop Elliott Sorge, executive for Education for Mission and Ministry, will be the preacher.
The Rev. David Perry of the Christian education office at the Church Center is chairman of the planning group for the Episcopal Event.
The theme of the ecumenical event, which is sponsored by the consortium, Joint Educational Development, is also "Refocusing Our Vision." The opening address will be given by Madeleine L'Engle, a children's author and an Episcopalian, on the theme, "Bearers of the Vision." A variety of workshops in the areas of skills development and creative expression will be offered.
