Foundation Elects New Officers

NEW YORK (DPS, June 9) -- David E. Gile, former treasurer of The Episcopal Church Foundation, was elected president by the board of directors at the annual meeting here. He succeeds Henry S. Noble, who retires after serving as president for 11 years.

Peter F. Weir was elected treasurer to succeed Gile. Officers who were re-elected are: the Rt. Rev. John M. Allin, chairman; Peter Megargee Brown, secretary; and Frederick L. Redpath, executive vice-president.

Gile, senior vice-president and special assistant to the chairman, Marine Midland Bank, New York City, lives in Rye, N.Y., where he formerly served as chairman of the Recreation Commission, and member of the City Council. He is a member of Christ Church. He was educated at Shady Side Academy, Pittsburgh, and Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., Yale University, Class of 1944, and the University of Pittsburgh Law School.

He practiced law briefly, then joined Union National Bank of Pittsburgh and later the Pittsburgh National Bank. In 1964, he joined the Marine Midland Trust Company and was elected a senior vice-president in 1968. An active Yale alumnus, he is currently chairman of the Yale Alumni Fund, secretary of his class, director of the Federation of Yale Athletics, and trustee of the Berkeley Divinity School. He has been president of The Church Club of New York, and chairman of the New York Council of The Episcopal Church Foundation. He and his wife, the former Patricia Schoen, have three children.

Weir, a lawyer, is senior partner of Cole & Deitz, New York City. He was educated at Vermont Academy, Williams College, Class of 1955, Harvard Law School, and received the M.B.A. at NYU Graduate School of Business Administration.

He is a member of the parish of Calvary-St. George's, New York City, having served as vestryman, warden, counsel to the parish, and clerk of the vestry. He has been a delegate to the Diocesan Convention and the Inter-Parish Council, and chairman of the New York Council of The Episcopal Church Foundation.

Weir is a member of the American Arbitration Association, alternate director of the Fire Island Association, director, vice-president and counsel of the Point O'Woods Association, and director and secretary, Elderworks Foundation. He and his wife, the former Jean McCullough, have two children.

The Episcopal Church Foundation is an independent, national organization of lay men and women who make grants and loans to projects of special significance to the Church.
