JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (DPS, April 19) -- Episcopalians in the Diocese of Florida are making final preparations for the 1984 Anglican Fellowship of Prayer International Conference here May 3-5.

As announced in fall 1983 issue of the Fellowship Newsletter, the conference leader will be the Rt. Rev. John B. Coburn, Bishop of Massachusetts. The theme for the conference will be "Jesus Christ -- Reconciler and Healer." Morning Bible studies will be led by Judith MacNutt, who with her husband, Francis MacNutt, will take part in a healing service on Friday afternoon. The banquet speaker will be Dave Stoner, now a seminary student at the University of the South, and a former counselor in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.

Workshop leaders will include the Rt. Rev. Donald M. Hultstrand, Bishop of Springfield; the Rt. Rev. William H. Folwell, Bishop of Central Florida; the Rev. Frank Dearing, The Rev. Jonathan B. Coffey, Jr., the Rev. Arthur L. Dasher; and Mrs. Vernella Brown.

The closing Eucharist will be held at St. Johns Cathedral which is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 1984.

"Make this conference your spring vacation in Florida", urges Sheldon Boney, Fellowship Trustee and Representative from the diocese of Florida, who heads the planning committee. "Come and enjoy a wonderful conference as well as our beautiful river and beaches plus historic St. Augustine only 35 miles away and Disney World and EPCOT just 150 miles south near Orlando," she said.

Jacksonville is located on the Atlantic coast in northeast Florida just 40 miles south of the Georgia border. On October 1, 1968 it became the largest city in North America covering an area of 840 square miles. This occurred due to the consolidation of the county with the city government to eliminate duplication of all types of services. This Consolidated Government has become a model for the rest of the nation.

An area steeped in history, the north Florida coast was first settled by the French who established a colony called Fort Caroline at the mouth of what is now the St. Johns River in 1562. This was three years before the Spanish founded St. Augustine in 1565.

Headquarters for the conference will be the Sheraton at St. Johns Place Hotel located right on the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville. Room rates will $48 single and $50 double. Arrangements may also be made for accommodations in private homes.

Registration information and material may be obtained from the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer, Diocesan House, 325 Market Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202 or by calling Boney at (904) 384-1895.
