ANAHEIM, Calif. (DPS, Oct.24) -- The 1985 gathering of the Church Periodical Club ended Sept. 6 here with a musical evening with Rosalind Runcie that raised $10,000 for the Club's ministry of the printed word.

Earlier that day, the Club had wrapped up its formal weeklong meeting with a Eucharist at which Presiding Bishop John M. Allin installed new officers for the coming triennium. During that meeting, the National Books Fund approved 30 grants that totalled more than $27,000. These grants will allow purchase of written material in such places as Tanzania, the Philippines, Ghana, Venezuela, and India, as well as in Idaho, Wisconsin, and the South Bronx, New York.

Funds for these grants were raised by parish Club chairmen and diocesan directors as well as the receipts from the Runcie concert, which the Club co-sponsored with Bishop and Mrs. Allin for the entire General Convention. Mrs. Runcie, wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury, is a well-known concert pianist and raconteur who gave a series of benefit recitals around the country in the early fall.

Beside major changes in the by-laws to re-establish provincial representation on the Executive Board, events included workshops and plans for the centennial celebration in 1988.

New Club officers for the 1986-88 triennium are: president, Sally Park, Diocese of West Virginia; vice-president, Janice Cook, treasurer, Louis Gill, Episcopal Church Center; and national books fund chairman, Barbara Braun, Diocese of Eau Claire.

The remaining members of the executive board are provincial representatives. They are: I -- Ellin Anderson, Diocese of Connecticut; II -- Beth Faubel, Diocese of Rochester; III -- Margaret Johnston, Diocese of Southern Virginia; IV -- Adele Hallack, Diocese of Southeast Florida; V -- Jennie Alsgaard, Diocese of Michigan; VI -- Marilyn Olson, Diocese of Minnesota; VII -- Winnie Hamlin, Diocese of Dallas; and VIII-Julia Godsey, Diocese of Idaho.

The Club also sponsored the "energy lift" for the General convention and Triennial. The mid-afternoon candy snack was donated by the Sunkist Growers and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Stover.
