Browning to Speak at Communicators Meeting

NAVASOTA, Texas (DPS, Jan. 30) -- The Episcopal Communicators will hold their annual conference at Camp Allen, here from May 27-30, 1986. The Most Rev. Edmond Lee Browning, Presiding Bishop, will be the special guest. He will speak the first night of the conference as well as participate in an open session the next morning.

Another highlight of the gathering will be the annual presentation of the Polly Bond Awards. Given for excellence in church communication, the awards cover a variety of categories in print, electronic and specialized media communication. Dana Speer, communications Officer for the Diocese of Ohio, will coordinate this year's contest.

A series of workshops will also be offered, including "Newswriting" with Helen Parmley, religion writer, Dallas Morning News, and Louis Moore, religion writer, the Houston Chronicle; "Layout and Graphics" with Dallas graphic artist Mike McCorstin; and "Video" with the Rev. Steve Landregan of the Fulton Sheen Center for Communications in Video.

Dr. William Martin, chairman of the sociology department at Rice University and contributing editor to the Texas Monthly magazine, will speak at one of the evening sessions.

The annual Episcopal Communicators conference is the primary opportunity for those with communications responsibilities in the Episcopal Church to share ideas as well as foster professional growth and expertise.

Registration for the gathering will be handled by the Rev. Burtis M. Dougherty, P.O. Box 6003, Alexandria, VA. 22306. Registration blanks and conference materials will be mailed in February to all diocesan editors and members of the Episcopal Communicators.
