Convention Video to Aid Deputies

NEW YORK (DPS, Mar. 31) -- A videotape giving an overview of the General Convention will be distributed to diocesan offices and their media resource centers. Although the video "Gathering of the Family" is primarily meant to serve as an orientation tool for deputies, in the spirit that the General Convention is for the whole Church, it has been designed to be of interest to a broader audience of diocesan leaders, clergy and lay.
Specifics and mechanics are stressed, particularly during a "tutorial" segment with the Rev. Donald Nickerson, executive officer and interim secretary of Convention. At the same time, attention is paid to the broader meaning of Convention, the history and theology of the gathering, and its place in the overall structure of the Church.
The video features conversations with three experienced deputies and other key figures in the General Convention, including the president and vice president of the House of Deputies, the Very Rev. David Collins and Pamela Chinnis, respectively.
This production does not deal with specific issues Convention will address, but rather the process and spirit of the triennial event. Particularly valuable for first time deputies, the video will also give experienced Convention attendees a sense of what lies ahead during the time to come this July in Detroit.
