Woodard, Jr. Resigns from Council

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Rev. George H. (Jack) Woodard, Jr., Episcopal Church leader and a pioneer in Church urban ministry development, has resigned from the staff of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church effective June 30 to pursue a career as a Church management consultant.

Father Woodard has been associated with the Executive Council for six years, four of them as director of the Joint Urban Program. For the past two years he has been associate director of Services to Dioceses.

During the past six months Father Woodard while on a sabbatical leave has been engaged in working with Trinity Parish, New York City, on a study which is expected to result in the development at Trinity of new forms of ministry for the future.

He will continue to work with Trinity Parish as a management consultant on a part time basis while being associated with Consultation/Search, Inc., Church management consultants of Cambridge, Mass., as a member of the firm. The firm specializes in Church management consultation and leadership selection. He will make his home in New York City.

Before coming to the Executive Council he was rector of All Saints Church, Houston, Tex., and chairman of the Diocesan Department of Urban Mission. He was ordained in 1961 and before entering the ministry was a businessman and engineer for 12 years. He is a graduate of the University of Texas and the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest.
