Oklahoma Parish Ends Ties with Bishop of London

St. Michael's Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, has voted to affiliate with the United Episcopal Church of North America, a small denomination that broke away from the Episcopal Church, and thereby end its ties with a leading conservative Church of England bishop. The dissident congregation created a furor in the Episcopal Church three years ago when it rejected the leadership of the diocesan bishop and requested episcopal guidance from Bishop Graham Leonard of London. Led by a defrocked Episcopal priest, the 60-member congregation voted unanimously to join the United Episcopal Church after deciding that it could not join the newly organized traditionalist group within the Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Synod of America.
