Western North Carolina Selects Cathedral

The Diocese of Western North Carolina recently voted to designate All Souls Episcopal Church in Asheville as the diocesan cathedral, effective January 1, 1995. The vote ended three and one-half years of study, education and dialogue concerning a cathedral-based ministry for the diocese. Bishop Robert Johnson said, "As we get ready to begin our second century as a diocese...a cathedral church will symbolize the ministry of the light of Christ that is in us." The Rev. James Hindle, chairman of the cathedral advocacy task force, said the cathedral will "be a tangible symbol of the Episcopal church, centered around an altar, providing a seat for the bishop and a house of prayer for all people."
