Publication of SHARE

Diocesan Press Service. August 13, 1971 [94-7]

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- SHARE, a pilot issue of a new publication for church educators, will be published in August by the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church in the U.S. (Southern) and the United Church of Christ, three of the six denominations which are seeking ways to meet together the educational concerns of their memberships through Joint Educational Development.

SHARE will aim at meeting the down-to-earth needs of church people who are involved in educational ministry, including the church school teacher, the pastor and director of religious education, the church school superintendent and the Christian education committee.

It proposes to be a vehicle among church educators for exchanging ideas about needs, programs and resources, and for sharing experiences and concerns. It will try to give practical help in strengthening educational skills and will recommend additional curriculum resources. It will also keep its readers up-to-date on current developments and publications in the field of church education.

In addition to news, articles, exchange of ideas and resource listings, SHARE will include an insert that each denomination will prepare for its own constituency. Through this occasional insert Episcopal readers will be updated on denominational curriculum and news of church education events of special concern to them.

The September issue of SHARE will give readers a sample of its possibilities. A questionnaire in this pilot issue is designed for feedback from readers. If the response to the first issue is adequate, it is expected that SHARE will be published bimonthly except in the summer, beginning in January, 1972.

SHARE replaces FINDINGS which was previously published by the Seabury Press for the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. The pilot issue of SHARE is being sent by the Executive Council to every Episcopal clergyman, to the parishes that formerly subscribed to FINDINGS, to those persons on the national directors of religious education list, to those on the Episcopal Church Women education chairman list and to Diocesan editors.
