United Thank Offering Announces 1998 Grants

(ENS) The United Thank Offering recently awarded 123 different grants for a total of $2,670,423. Eighty-nine of the grants were for projects in the United States. The remaining 34 were granted to Anglican undertakings throughout the rest of the world. In the United States, the largest grants included $35,800 awarded to the Diocese of Western Michigan to remodel church facilities for handicap access. The Diocese of San Diego received $31,292 to hire an organizer for its crisis intervention project and $30,000 went to the Diocese of Texas to set up a transportation program to allow elderly and poor residents access to a new health clinic and community wellness center. Another $30,000 was awarded to the Diocese of Lexington for the renovation of a preschool. Internationally, the largest grant, $81,000, was made to the Diocese of the Dominican Republic to begin construction of multi-use classroom and chapel Another large grant, for $70,000, went to the Anglican Church of Kenya's Diocese of Mount Kenya West to purchase a building to house the diocesan offices.
