New Staff Appointments Announced at Episcopal Church Center

(ENS) A number of new appointees have joined the Episcopal Church Center staff or will join it soon.
In a new effort to improve communication between the center and people throughout the wider church, the center has established an Information Desk, headed by Bernie Mulzac, who has worked at the center since 1989. She will help persons learn what they need about churchwide ministries, events and general church information. Before starting work with the information desk, Mulzac was coordinator of the Linkage Program, under which members of the center staff served as liaisons with dioceses.
In other appointments, Thomas K. Chu, who for the past year was interim head of the cluster of Ministries with Young People, was formally named program director of the cluster and staff officer for Young Adults and Higher Education.
Joining him in that cluster is Betsy Boyd, staff officer for Youth Ministries. Boyd, former missioner for Christian Education and Youth Ministries in the Diocese of Dallas, has also served as youth advisor to the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and, before that, director of Ministries for Children and Youth at Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville, Maryland. She holds a bachelor's degree in Youth Ministries and Christian Education from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts.
Also new to Ministries with Young People is the Rev. Robyn Szoke, Children's Ministries program officer. She is a former assistant to the Bishop of Pennsylvania for Christian Education and director of the Diocesan Christian Education Resource Center. A graduate of Moravian Seminary and General Theological Seminary, she also holds degrees from Lehigh University and West Chester University in Pennsylvania.
In January, the Rev. Carmen Guerrero will begin work at the church's Jubilee Programs officer. Currently archdeacon for Multicultural Ministry in the Diocese of Los Angeles, she has served on many national church boards and commissions, including the Executive Council. A graduate of the University of the South in Tennessee and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, she served for two years developing a seminary in the Diocese of Honduras and later helped build up congregations from Texas to California.
In Washington, D.C., Thomas Hart is now director of Government Relations for the Episcopal Church. As such, he represents the positions of the Episcopal Church and the concerns of the Anglican Communion to policymakers in the White House, Congress, the news media and ecumenical and interfaith organizations. He has been interim director and policy analyst for the church. Prior to that, he worked several years on Capitol Hill as a Senate staffer.
Sharon Tolley has been named executive secretary to the Presiding Bishop. She brings with her an extensive corporate background, is a published researcher, and is proud of her work in her local Episcopal church, St. Lawrence of Canterbury in Dix Hills, New York.
In the church's Office of News and Information, Daphne Mack has joined the staff as communications assistant. A graduate of Utica College of Syracuse University, she formerly worked on the communications staff at Riverside Church in New York City. And in the Presiding Bishop's office, Elizabeth Webb has been named communications aide. A graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, she has worked in Washington, D.C., on the staff of a member of the House of Representatives.
