Episcopal School Week
Diocesan Press Service. August 1, 1962 [I-8]
Note to editors:
The Episcopal School Association, through its Episcopal School Week Committee, asks cooperation from editors in the observance of Episcopal School Week: Oct. 28 - Nov. 4, 1962. This is an appropriate time to run a story about the Episcopal schools in your own diocese. It is a matter of deep concern that many faithful communicants know so little about the parish and preparatory schools of our Church, which are vital agents of the Church, both from an evangelical and an educational standpoint. The following may help you prepare a story:
There are now 725 schools associated with the Episcopal Church, including 50 in foreign countries. Episcopal parish and preparatory schools are a growing force within the life of our Church that needs the prayers and support of all Episcopalians.
A statement from the Presiding Bishop:
Episcopal School Week - a brief time in which we are asked to consider the Church's responsibility in educating her children. And it is a grave responsibility.
Throughout our Church more and more schools are being founded, and it is the Church's task to see to it that our children receive the best spiritual and intellectual nourishment. Anything less than this is unworthy of our calling as the Body of Christ.
In these few days I ask that you join with me in taking the measure of our obligation for our children's care and nurture, and in praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit for all who teach and all who learn.
The Right Reverend Arthur Lichtenberger
