Congress Plans Develop

Diocesan Press Service. November 1, 1962 [IV-5]

Anglicans in Canada are doing everything possible to obtain wide participation in next summer's Anglican Congress.

Two Dioceses on this side of the border have sent cash grants to help: Minnesota with $500 and Massachusetts with $1,000. These funds will join Canadian monies set aside to bring delegates who could not otherwise afford the trip.

A wide system of Canadian committees moves toward August, 1963 making all sorts of preparations.

Headquarters for these is centralized at 135 Adelaide St., East, Toronto 1. The National Committee, which is responsible for policy, includes travel allocations, public relations, education, program, preparation year and the Secretariat.

Thirteen Toronto Diocese Committees are operating to take care of local housekeeping, arrangements, housing, and the many other aspects. For example, the Women's Committee has as one of its responsibilities the recruiting of all women committees.

Each parish in the Diocese of Toronto is naming a Congress Committee to participate in the preparatory year, to raise the Congress budget, to help find housing and transportation, and to produce volunteers.

Actively involved in much of this work is W. Arthur Hand, lay executive officer of the Toronto Diocese, who is secretary of the Diocesan Committee and a member of the National Committee, active in travel allocations.
