COLLEGE FOUNDATION ELECTS

I. Dwight Fickes is the newly elected president of the Foundation for Episcopal Colleges. Formerly on the staff and board of directors of Ward Dreshman and Reinhardt, Inc., New York firm of fund raising consultants, Mr. Frickes is also a former business administrator of the Pennington School for Boys, Pennington, New Jersey.

The Foundation, which has its offices in New York City, was formed in 1962 and consists of eight colleges: Trinity Colleges: Trinity College, Hartford, Conn; Hobart College, Geneva, N. Y.; University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn.; Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, N. Y.; Shimer College, Mt. Carroll, ll.; St. Augustine's College, Raleigh, N.C.; St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Va.; and Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio.

Dr. Albert C. Jacobs, president of Trinity College, was again named chairman of the Foundation. Other officers are: Dr. Edward McCrady, vice-chancellor of the University of the South, vice chairman: Kenneth C. Parker of Trinity, secretary; and Clifford E. Orr of Hobart, treasurer.

GROUND BROKEN - WINTER STYLE

This year's uncommonly cold winter weather made its presence felt at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Church of the Redeemer, Rensselaer, N. Y. When Bishop Brown of Albany attempted to turn the traditional first spadeful of dirt, he found the ground frozen. The problem was finally solved when the Rev. Harold F. King, rector, obtained an electrical jackhammer. The Bishop was able to break ground, and the ceremonies continued.

PUTNAM 'S CONSECRATION SET

NEW YORK --- The Presiding Bishop has announced that he has taken order for the ordination and consecration of the Rev. Frederick W. Putnam, Jr., as suffragan bishop-elect of Oklahoma.

He will be consecrated Monday, May 20, in the Civic Auditorium, Oklahoma City, by the Rt. Rev. Robert N. Brown, D.D., Bishop of Arkansas. Co-consecrators will be the Rt. Rev. Edward Clark Turner, D.D., Bishop of Kansas, and the Rt. Rev. Chilton Powell, D. D., Bishop of Oklahoma.

Prior to his election on December 11, 1962, Mr. Putnam was rector of St. James' Episcopal Church, Wichita, Kansas, where he has served since 1960. Born in Red Wing, Minn., on June 17, 1917, Suffragan Bishop-elect Putnam received his BA degree in 1939 from the University of Minnesota his BD in 1942 from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. He was priested in October of 1942.
