Rancheros for Iran

Diocesan Press Service. December 10, 1962 [V-6]

The Rancheros Road Association Juniors, a wide-available group of neighborhood youngsters in Pasadena, Calif., responded promptly when they heard of the plight of the victims of the earthquake disasters in Iran last September.

The results of their alertness to a tragic need in a far-off land was a gift of $25 (a gigantic sum to them) to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief designated for the Church's relief work in Iran.

Their offering represented the proceeds from two short plays (admission: adults, 25 cents, juniors 15 cents) put together through hard work and presented by the youngsters in hopes of helping in Iran.

In acknowledging their gift, the Rev. Almon R. Pepper, secretary of the World Relief Committee, assured the Juniors that their contribution would join those of others of the Church in providing food, warm clothing, and shelter for the Iranian earthquake victims.

He also explained that immediately after the earthquake the Presiding Bishop's Committee had cabled the Anglican Bishop of Iran, the Rt. Rev. Hassan Barnaba Debqani-Taftt, telling him of the Church's concern and designating a token gift of $1,000.

When news of the Iran earthquakes in September was received, Church World Service immediately sent $25,000 worth of blankets, clothing and medicines to Iran.

The Rt. Rev. Hassan Barnaba Dehqani-Taft, Anglican Bishop of Iran and presidept of the local Christian Council, has announced that the Council will rebuild one entire village of about 2,800 people which was completely destroyed in the recent Iranian earthquake disaster. American churches, through Church World Service have agreed to raise and contribute $150,000 to aid in the work of replacing all of the village's houses, schools, churches, and other buildings.
