Parish Assistants Program

Diocesan Press Service. January 10, 1963 [VI-14]

The 1963 Training Program for Parish Assistants in Christian Education will be at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill., June 30 to August 10, 1963.

The National Council's Department of Christian Education announces a revision of the program that in previous years ran for 12 weeks.

Under the new plan a six-week program is scheduled, with a second six-week program in 1964. The interim year will be spent on the job in gaining practical experience in study, and in consultation with supervisors.

The program will continue to train clergy and lay persons who have Christian education positions either on a diocesan or a Parochial level.

The curriculum will cover such areas as the theological foundations and objectives of Christian education, the teacher-learning process, methods and techniques in Christian educational work with children, youth, and adults, and principles of leadership training.

The cost for the six-week program which includes room, board, and tuition is $350. Scholarship aid is available to cover part of the cost if needed. Applicants must be 25 years of age or older. They must be presently employed on a full-time, part-time, or volunteer basis in the field of Christian education or they must have the assurance of a position at the conclusion of the program. Applicants must submit letters indicating the approval of their vestry and rector. The rector's cooperation in the training is indicated by his agreement to visit the program for a period of three days. Since the program is being held in two sessions applicants must plan to attend the 1964 session.

The closing date for receiving applications is May 15. For further information and application forms write to Miss Phyllis Towner, Administrator TPPA, 28 Havemeyer Place, Greenwich, Conn. (After March 1 -- 815 Second Avenue, New York 17, N.Y.)
