Bishop Nash Dies

Diocesan Press Service. February 8, 1963 [VII-4]

The Rt. Rev. Norman Burdett Nash, 74-year-old retired Bishop of Massachusetts, died Jan. 3 at his home in Cambridge, Mass.

Richard Cardinal Cushing of the Boston Roman Catholic Archdiocese visited him Christmas Eve and later that evening Roman Catholics were asked to pray for his recovery.

Cardinal Cushing later said "For many years Bishop Nash was a forceful leader in this community and his wide counsel directed many good programs for the benefit of all. He earned the respect of those who worked with him and every citizen, whatever may be his religious background, will sorrow at the passing of this good Christian soul from our midst. May he have eternal rest with the Lord to whom his life was dedicated."

The Rt. Rev. Henry Knox Sherill, retired presiding bishop, officiated at the services held in St. Paul's Cathedral, Boston. The Rt. Rev. Anson Phelps Stokes, Bishop of Massachusetts, and the Very Rev. Charles H. Buck, Jr., St. Paul's dean, assisted.
