CONSECRATION SET
NEW YORK, --- The first Bishop of the Virgin Islands -- the Rev. Cedric Earl Mills--will be consecrated Friday, April 10, in St. James' Church, Baltimore, Md.
Bishop-elect Mills, rector of St. James' Church for 22 years, will be consecrated by Presiding Bishop Lichtenberger.
Co-consecrators will be the Rt. Rev. Noble C. Powell, Bishop of Maryland, and the Rt. Rev. A. Ervine Swift, S. T. D., Bishop of Puerto Rico.
The Missionary District of the Virgin Islands was established in 1919 by the General Convention as part of the Missionary District of Puerto Rico.
In 1947, however, the House of Bishops authorized separation of the Missionary District of the Virgin Islands from the Missionary District of Puerto Rico. As no bishop was elected for the newly-separated district, the Presiding Bishop appointed the Bishop of Puerto Rico as Bishop-in-Charge.
BARRETT ELECTED
The Rev. George West Barrett, D. D., rector of Christ Church, Bronxville, N. Y., has accepted his election as Bishop of Rochester (N. Y. )
Bishop-elect Barrett was elected Feb. 6 by laity and clergy at a diocesan convention at Christ Church, Rochester. He was selected unanimously on the second ballot.
A consecration date will be set after a majority of consents have been received from bishops and standing committees.
Bishop-elect Barrett will be the fourth to lead the Diocese of Rochester since it was separated from the Diocese of Western New York in 1931. He succeeds the Rt. Rev. Dudley Scott Stark, who served for 12 years and retired on December 31, 1962.
