Aid Sent to Yugoslavia
Diocesan Press Service. August 12, 1963 [XII-14]
As a preliminary gesture in helping to relieve the tragic aftermath of the Yugoslavian earthquake, a supply of water purification tablets, blankets, and tents have been sent to aid the disaster victims by the Church World Service.
The Church World Service is one of the channels through which the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief carries out its work.
An amount of $5, 000 was authorized by CWS for the procurement of supplies desperately needed by the thousands of homeless after last month's catastrophe. A full shipment of clothing, originally destined for church workers, was also diverted to the distressed area by the Lutheran World Relief.
Arrangements have been made with the U. S. Agency for International Development in Washington and with commercial airlines for free transportation of the supplies which will be distributed through the Red Cross.
