Diocesan Press Service. November 8, 1963 [XV-1]
Air Shipment of drugs, blankets and food supplements for Haitian survivors of Hurricane Flora were made Oct. 11 by Church World Service. Included in disaster supplies rushed to Haiti are medicines and foodstuffs.
The Haitian counterpart of Church World Service, Service Chretien d'Haiti, was assigned a coastal area by the emergency coordinating committee and rescue and relief plans were developed. The Rev. Luc Garnier, an Episcopal priest, is president of the Haitian organization.
American churches are seeking $150, 000 to contribute to a World Council of Churches emergency appeal for $500, 000 as a response to Flora's Caribbean disasters. The Rev. Canon Almon Pepper, director of the Department of Christian Social Relations, says "we will respond and try to assume our share of the $150,000. Whether we do or not is dependent on contributions to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief. "
Wide areas in the Caribbean were damaged by Flora and Church World Service and related agencies are busy with assistance. Emergencies in Italy and Pakistan at about the same time made great demands on Church World Service.
