Wilton, Conn. Rector Honored
Diocesan Press Service. November 8, 1963 [XV-16]
The Rev. Robert L. Green, Jr., rector of St. Matthew's Church in Wilton, Conn., is a winner of the 1963 Silver Anniversary All-America Award - an honor based on the life achievements of men who played senior varsity collegiate football in 1938.
Mr. Green was one of the two clergymen in the group of 25 named for the honor in the Nov. 6 Sports Illustrated. Nomination for the honor comes from the man's alma mater and the voting is by a panel of nationally distinguished citizens.
Rector of St. Matthew's for 10 years, Mr. Green is a graduate of Harvard College and the Episcopal Theological School. He is ranked as one of Harvard's outstanding football captains. He has been active in the "renewal of the church" and he helped launch the Ecumenical Center in Wilton in 1960.
The other clergyman, the Rev. Ray H. Montgomery, pastor of Speedway Christian Church in Indianapolis, was nominated for the honor by DePauw University.
