COLORADO EPISCOPAL, ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOPS, PRIESTS MEET

Progress toward a closer understanding between priests of the Roman Catholic and Episcopal churches of Colorado was realized recently.

On Jan. 16, Colorado's Diocesan, the Rt. Rev. Joseph S. Minnis, and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Pueblo, the Most Reverend Charles A. Buswell, led a gathering of 85 priests of both communions. The three-hour afternoon session was held in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Pueblo.

In this initial meeting between Roman Catholic and Anglican priests, Bishop Buswell and Bishop Minnie agreed that it was a privilege to meet together as clergymen and expressed hope that this preliminary discussion will be followed by others of like nature.

A statement, released jointly by the two bishops, stated that "Ecumenicity is primarily the work of the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility to cultivate the proper atmosphere for the effective working of the Spirit of God by desire, by prayer and by preparation."

The meeting of the two bishops with many of their clergymen on Jan. 16 carried on this climate of friendliness. A similar meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27, when Bishop Buswell and the Diocese of Pueblo will be hosts at the Roman Catholic Abbey in Canon City.
