1963 ANNUAL REPORT

In introducing the 1963 Annual Report, Presiding Bishop Lichtenberger stated that it "is intended to be one measure of our obedience as a Church this past year to the call of mission."

In summarizing the activities of National Council during 1963, the Presiding Bishop stated that four issues were prominently before the Church: the urban revolution; Cuban refugees; rapid social change, particularly in the area of race relations; and the Anglican Congress document, "Mutual Responsibility and Interdependence in the Body of Christ."

Financially, 18 dioceses and districts considerably exceeded their pledges, with a net result of $65, 197 in excess of pledges. As the Presiding Bishop stated, "All of us can be truly grateful for the response of the members of our Church, through their stewardship of money, to the opportunities in our missionary, educational and social work."

He continued: "Yet while we rejoice in the increased response, we know that there are many urgent needs now. We hope the Church will become increasingly aware of the opportunities for mission and respond to them."
