Episcopal Young Churchmen to Meet in Denver

Diocesan Press Service. May 6, 1964 [XXI-20]

Episcopal Young Churchmen from all over the nation will converge on Colorado Woman's College, Denver, for the Triennial Convocation, August 26-September 2.

This Convocation will be an opportunity for young Episcopalians to "get to know one another, to encounter one another's attitudes, beliefs, prejudices and strengths ... to rediscover life in Christ, and the dimension of freedom within that life; and to discover the world-wide nature of the community of Christ - the Church."

Each diocese and missionary district may register four young persons and one adult prior to July 1, 1964. Additional registrations will then be accepted. Delegates must have completed the 10th or 11th grades and be able to make leadership contribution in parish and/or diocese following the Convocation.

The Convocation convenors are asking dioceses and missionary districts to include a non-Caucasian in their delegations. "The period of national and world history in which this Convocation will meet indicates that special effort must be made to assure that this gathering is representative of all the races which comprise our Church in this country. Although previous national youth gatherings have been open to all races they have been attended almost completely by Caucasians.

Leaders of the Convocation will be the Very Rev. Edward H. Patey, Dean of Liverpool Cathedral who will lead the Bible studies; and such noted churchmen as Miss Emma Lou Benignus, Associate Director of the Institute for Advanced Pastoral Studies, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Mrs. Harold G. Kelleran, Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology, Virginia Theological Seminary; the Rev. Daisuke Kitagawa, D. D., Executive Secretary, Division of Domestic Mission, National Council; the Rev. Joseph G. Moore, Ph.D., Executive Officer Strategic Advisory Commission; and the Rev. Cornelius Tarplee, Division of Christian Citizenship, National Council.
