Help for Children Overseas
Diocesan Press Service. August 7, 1964 [XXIII-11]
How can you help a child overseas ? The Committee on World Relief and Inter-church Aid of National Council has stated that the best way, at present, is through Projects supported by the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief.
In cooperation with the Overseas Department and church schools overseas, a program is developing by which an individual can provide for tuition and the cost of care. Reports will come to the donor from the school but no personal relationships will be established with individual students.
This type of program will, according to the Committee, "prove sound for the welfare of the children and assure efficient supervision and administration."
Until such programs are more fully developed, those who want to aid children overseas can send contributions to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, designated "for children." This money will then be used, in cooperation with bishops and schools overseas and with Church World Service, to provide food, clothing, tuition and child-care. Those interested may also obtain the pamphlet Second Mile Giving, which describes special projects in overseas schools and other programs, from the Overseas Department, 815 Second Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10017.
