Bishop Lewis of Olympia Dies

SEATTLE - The Rt. Rev. William F. Lewis, Bishop of Olympia, died Sept. 6 of leukemia. The 62- year-old bishop had been ill for the past year.
Funeral services were held Sept. 10 at Trinity Church, Seattle, conducted by the Rt. Rev. Ivol I. Curtis, Bishop Coadjutor of Olympia and Bishop Lewis' successor; the Rt. Rev. Russel S. Hubbard, Missionary Bishop of Spokane and president of the Province of the Pacific; and the Rt. Rev. William G. Wright, Missionary Bishop of Nevada. Interment was in Reno, Nevada, where Bishop Lewis served from 1942 until 1959.
Bishop Lewis became diocesan Jan. 1, 1960, succeeding the Rt. Rev. Stephen Bayne, when he became Anglican Executive Officer. He served parishes in New Jersey, Montana and Vermont before being elected bishop in 1942.
