Australians React to MRI Document

Diocesan Press Service. February 8, 1965 [XXIX-14]

The director of the Australian Committee on M. R. L , the Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Sambell, recently announced Australia's preliminary plans for responding to the 1963 Anglican document.

First, the Australian MRI Committee has selected a list of projects, amounting to 150, 000 pounds, or $419, 250, from the world lists circulated by the Anglican Executive Officer. They will be primarily from the main areas of work of the Church Missionary Society and the Australian Board of Missions; and also from the Church of South India and the Inter-Church Aid list.

These projects, to be undertaken over and above present budget commitments, will be available to any parish or diocese as and when it is ready to respond.

Second, in order to arouse the response of parishes and dioceses the Committee has made available a program of self-evaluation, "Parish Action," in order to help parishes look at themselves. Thus preparing the way for repentance, renewal and response. This program will be carried out under the following headings, the Parish Looks at Itself, the Parish Learns to Listen, the Parish Church and the Churches, the Parish and the World, the Parish has One Ministry, and the Parish Dies to Live.

Prayer leaflets will also be available, making this the first time that the Church in Australia will be praying and studying together as a whole.
