4 Diocesan Publications Win

Diocesan publications from Los Angeles, Chicago, Tennesee and New Hampshire are the winners of The Presiding Bishop's Award for 1964.

The Episcopal Review of the Diocese of Los Angeles, and the Episcopal Advance of the Diocese of Chicago were adjudged the best newspaper and magazine, respectively, in the annual competition open to all diocesan publications of the Episcopal Church.

The Tennessee Churchman, official diocesan newspaper of the Diocese of Tennessee, and The New Hampshire Churchman magazine were given awards for the most improvement, compared to a year ago.

The four winning publications in the third annual competition were selected by a board of judges chaired by Prof. Roland E. Wolseley, head of the magazine departement of the Syracuse University School of Journalism.

The award was established to promote high standards of diocesan journalism by The Episcopalian, in cooperation with the National Diocesan Press, and with the approval of the Presiding Bishop.

The awards will be presented to the winning editors and their bishops at General Convention in St. Louis. The presentation is scheduled for the morning session of the House of Bishops, Friday, October 16.

The award-winning editors are Robert G. Reagan of The Episcopal Review; Mrs. Marion Q. Wiegman of the Episcopal Advance; Alan Pope of The New Hampshire Churchman, and Mrs. L. M. Baumgartner, The Tennessee Churchman.

The judges, in addition to Professor Wolseley, were Karl McElroy, managing editor of the Syracuse Herald-Journal and Herald American; Richard Bandy, photographer of the Syracuse Post Standard; David M. Norton, assistant professor of graphic arts of the Syracuse School of Journalism, and Mrs. William K. Tracy of the public relations firm of Rath- Johnston, Syracuse.
