4 New Bishops Chosen

The House of Bishops, meeting in executive session during the 61st General Convention, elected four bishops: one to serve the Missionary District of North Dakota, one to head Armed Forces work, and two for overseas assignments. Their choices were confirmed by the House of Deputies.
The Rt. Rev. James C. Wong formerly of Jesselton, North Borneo was chosen Missionary Bishop of Taiwan. Bishop Wong, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was ordained to the priesthood In 1940 and served in the Dioceses of Hong Kong and Borneo. In 1960 he was consecrated Assistant Bishop of Borneo. The Rt. Rev. Charles P. Gilson, Suffragan Bishop of Honolulu, will move from his present post in Taiwan to Okinawa.
The Rev. George T. Masuda, rector of St. Luke's Church, Billings, Mont., is Bishop- elect of North Dakota, succeeding the late Rt. Rev. Richard R. Emery. Father Masuda has served in the Diocese of Montana since his ordination in 1942.
The Very Rev. F. Reus-Froylan, Dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Santurce, Puerto Rico, was elected Bishop Coadjutor of Puerto Rico. The election of a Coadjutor was requested by Bishop Swift of Puerto Rico. A Puerto Rican, Dean Reus has served in the District since his ordination in 1942.
The Rt. Rev. Arnold M. Lewis, who has served the Missionary District of Western Kansas since 1960, was named Suffragan Bishop of the Armed Forces. In this newly created position, Bishop Lewis will be responsible for the pastoral care and support of the Episcopal Church's 140 chaplains. He will also be the Church's liaison with the armed forces headquarters in Washington. His headquarters will be in New York.
