INSTALLATION OF PRESIDING BISHOP-ELECT
On Wednesday, January 27, at 3 p.m. the Rt. Rev. John Elbridge Hines will officially be installed as the 22nd Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.
The ceremony will take place at the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, Washington, D.C. This Cathedral, also known as the National Cathedral, is the official seat of the Presiding Bishop, as well as the seat of the Bishop of Washington.
Providing music for the occasion will be the choirs of New York's Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and St. Thomas' Church, and members of the National Symphony.
Representing the members of the Episcopal Church, will be its Bishops, and one clergyman and one layperson from each diocese. Also invited are leaders from other major Christian communions.
Taking part in the installation, which has been planned by Bishop Hines in conjunction with the Liturgical Committee of the National Cathedral, will be the Rt. Rev. William F. Creighton, Bishop of Washington, and the Very Rev. Francis B. Sayre, Dean of the Cathedral, among others.
It is also interesting to note that January 27th is the date upon which is commemorated the life of St. John Chrysostom, a saint whose commemoration was recently approved for "trial use" by the 61st General Convention.
