New York Liturgical Conference

Diocesan Press Service. January 8, 1965 [XXVIII-13]

The New York Liturgical Conference, to be held at the Waldorf-Astoria, New York City, April 26 - 28 will be the fourth national liturgical conference in the Episcopal Church. Like recent liturgical conferences of other communions, it will encourage the attendance of all Christians for a sharing of our mutual and varying concepts of liturgy.

"Liturgy," as expressed through these conferences, is "worship illuminating every aspect of life." Thus it is a matter of utmost importance for all clergymen, seminarians, and lay persons to understand this broad implication of Liturgy for all of their public work, everywhere and at all times.

To facilitate organization of the Conference, The Associated Parishes, the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York, and the Parish of Trinity Church, New York, are sharing the sponsorship.

The Rt. Rev. Mervin Stockwood, Bishop of Southwark, England, whose work in his own Diocese is breaking down false distinctions between the Sunday churchman and his daily work, will be among the key speakers. The Rt. Rev. Paul Moore, Suffragan Bishop of Washington, D. C., will speak on the Liturgy as the pattern and power for social action. The Rt. Rev. Jonathan Sherman, Suffragan Bishop of Long Island, will consider the role of the Episcopacy in liturgical worship. Representing the laity will be Dr. Margaret Mead, noted anthropologist and author, and John B. Mannion, executive secretary of the Roman Catholic Liturgical Conference.

The $35 registration fee includes admission to all conference sessions, the opening banquet, a luncheon, and a brunch. Living accommodations are available at the Waldorf- Astoria and cooperating, nearby hotels with single rates beginning at $10 a day, doubles at $16 a day.

Registration forms may be obtained from the New York Liturgical Conference, c/o 74 Trinity Place, New York, N. Y. 10006.
