DISASTER AID AVAILABLE IN CHILE
Medicine, blankets, vitamins, canned foods - all were available in that part of Chile devastated by earthquakes March 28 within less than 24 hours.
These supplies were rushed from a storehouse in Santiago by Church World Service in cooperation with the Ayuda Cristiana Evangelical (ACE), the social action arm of Chile's Protestant and Anglican churches.
ACE has also asked for aid from the World Council of Churches, which has responded by asking its member churches for $200,000 for relief and rehabilitation aid for survivors of the earthquakes. These funds would be used both for immediate emergency aid and to underwrite long-term programs including construction of churches and social centers.
This relief program is coordinated with the work of CARITAS, the Roman Catholic agency in Chile, and with the Red Cross.
